rudefyet
all my direct3d games are glitching like mad it's been doing this since i did a fresh install of Win XP my previous install worked fine...i can't figure out what could be causing it to do this both this install and my previous install i used 67.02 drivers w/ the Performance inf any suggestions on what to do? <-system info is there my video card is not overclocked
rudefyet
i have an idea.... it seems the original Compaq provided drivers underclock the video card to deal with the laptops lack of cooling...that explains why they are so slow (just a theory) i can't think of a real solution...i hope to god my video card isn't messed up I'm going to invest in a laptop cooling pad and see if it goes away
mobilenvidia
Your GPU should be fine, the driver doesn't the deternine the GPU speed. This is done by the Video BIOS. Try installing driver with just the normal INF, and see if this happens. The INFs don't overclock the GPU, just tweak D3D/OGL settings. One of the tweaked performance settings might be the cause of your flickering problems. I have made some changes to the tweaked INF so it should do a lot better now. (performance wise) So rest easy, if you havn't overclocked then your GPU should be ust fine. It's just a software problem.
rudefyet
yeah ignore that post earlier...not sure where i came up it that the problem seems to go away when throttle the cpu down to half speed... i get a lot of interference in my sound card from the cpu at full speed...maybe it's affecting the video card too I'll try some different INFs tonight see what i can comeup with
mobilenvidia
Also make sure you have latest chipset, soundcard drivers loaded as well.
rudefyet
thanks for the help i reinstalled the 66.81 drivers w/ the unmodified inf....no glitches...but to slow to play NFSU2 at full quality Then i went to the device manager...right clicked on my video card picked uninstall and proceded to reinstall 67.02 w/ the 30.41 performance inf welp...it's now just as slow as the untweaked inf and the quality setting don't seem to make any difference no matter what i choose do i need to clean out all the driver files and try again? ®®®
The solution would be: reboot after each uninstalll. When upgrading a driver (without uninstalling first) sometimes a reboot is not necessary, but most times a reboot supports the initialization of nView and the NV control panel plus the small icon besides the clock on the botton right. rudefyet
i reboot everytime i install a new driver EDIT: nm got it working 66.81, 66.93 and 67.02 all glitch w/ the performance infs i can't figure out why they do this now and not when i instaled them before i ended up formatting my hard drive *pulls out hair*
rudefyet
sorry bout all this nonsense the "perfomance" infs cause glitches and even "bad_pool_header" blue screens i'm assuming theres a conflict setting in the inf or something the regular modded infs work great so i'll revert to 67.02 w/ the 30.39 inf and see if it's quick enough i've got the latest drivers offered on compaqs site...i'm trying to think what i did different in my previous windows that the Performance infs worked
