Slowing down after a while

hello guys

i have a problem with the Quadro FX Go700 in my Dell Precision M60 (cpu: 1,7GHz, chipset: intel855PM (Mem: 82855PM, IO:82801DBM), ram: 1GB).

while playing GTR (FIA GT Racing Game) it slows down to less than 15 fps after a while. it starts with about 40-50 fps depending on driver and config.

that is the normal abnormal behaviour, but sometimes it starts with 10-15 fps and suddenly it switches to 40-50 fps and falls back later to 10-15.

i already tried a lot of drivers from here and from dell. always the same.

temperatur problem? (between 65 and 85 as shown in the driver driver tab)

not to forget to mention that i am using a docking station (D/Dock) and a Dell 20" TFT 1680x1050 over DVI

and clocking: core 286MHz - mem 301MHz

btw: in UT2004 it seems to be similar

any ideas? tia

It does sound like an overheating/clock speed problem to me.

You could try cleaning it out, and making sure it is getting enough air.

Does underclocking fix it?

Also, are you currently oeverclocking?

i am not sure if i overclock.

i already told the rates as shown in the drivers tab. but i don´t know whether these are the actually measured rates or just those which should be programmed...

the driver says 118° as limit for slowing down, so 85° should not trigger that.

and the cooler should be clean, but i am going to check that...

forgotten to log in... :)

Edit By Bill: Fixed :)

the cooler was more dusty than i thought. after cleaning it UT2004 made no problems, although the temperature climbed again to over 85°C...

i also installed the 67.22 (which was installed before without perf inf (30.41)) this time with performance inf (30.43 P).

i am going to check GTR, which should be easier to handle for the GPU than UT2004.

thanx so far.

So cleaning your laptop up made UT2004 run better?

Because you just found your solution to that problem then, it seems.

I have corrected your forgetting to log in.
