Guest Acura604
OK..hello everyone.. anyways, I have the Toshiba M40-JM1 featuring the Ultra hip Ultra NEW GEForce FX GO 6600. here's the thing.. am thinking of returning this laptop and moving to the Toshiba QOSMIO series which features the GO 5700 series instead... IS IT A major downgrade??? I am the following type of user: -games (most of current ones like HL2, doom3, etc) -web surfing -wireless connectivity -burning cd/dvd -minor business apps ALSO, playing Half Life 2 on the FX GO 6600.. the game locks up on occasion.. should I blame HEAT for that??? here is a snapshot of my graphics card/version: Thanks for any feedback. mobilenvidia
The go6600 will performance wise be 1/2 way between the go6800 and the go5700. It will be step backwards as the go6600 will handle DX9 much better than the go5700. Stick with the go6600, even though I havn't seen any benchmarks yet. If you are offering some benchies would be appreciated to add to my chart. This will then settle how well it performs against the go5700 (compare on my performance chart) Enjoy your go6600

Bill
You should use 3Dmark03, and 3Dmark05. You can also run 3Dmark01SE if you want.
mobilenvidia
Have a go @ all 3 that way you'll get an idea of DX7 (3DMark 2k1), DX8.1 (2k3) and DX9 (2k5) performance. Plus I can add all those scores to my table, seeing you are the first with that shiney new go6600
Guest acura604
i got 3dmark05... i load it.. but there are quite a few options.. anyways, i simply clicked on RUN 3DMARk with whatever defaults it has loaded up..and it scores a lowly 1962 3dmarks. mobilenvidia
That is not a bad score, a go5700 will get around 500, your nearly 4x faster !! Did you set all the Display performance settings to max. I have a page on the website to show you how. I have added you score to the performance table. mobilenvidia
3dmark01 - 13314 3dmark03 - 5134 3dmark05 1951 *will run again with modified settings as per your guide. Nice scores especially if you havn't even done any performance settings yet. The go6600 is lots faster in DX9 than a go5700, the other scores are of little consequence as they are old technlogy. You can run any DX9 game with comfort and a go5700 will need to have settings reduced to get a good framerate.

OOPS.. er.. this post was by me.. ! anyways, aborted the qosmio exchange and keeping my M40!....btw, the M40 is my 4t toshiba laptop within a year: Initial purchase: I started with an A70 based unit...but sold it to get: the P10-EE1 but found it to be too large, heavy and the ati9700 was locked at 64mb. BUT then I fell in love with trubrite and purchased the A70-00V but soon realized that the ati9000 based video was TOO WEAK for my games! I went to bestbuy to purchase the 17" series with the 128mb 9700 BUT the salesrep talked me out of it and said.. GO CENTRINO with the GO 6600 and you'll never regret it especially for gaming!...so i did.. soo..hmmm.. i figure i'll have this unit for a year?! call me crazy!
