Help with 420 go

Guest waf

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm new to this but after reading the posts am begining to think I can't fix the problem anyway. I have a Toshiba Satellite 2450 with a geforce 420 go 32 mb. Trying to install and run a new game I get the message "You need a minimum 32mb Vram and a programmable pixel/vertex shader"

Is there any way at all around this? drivers, new graphics card etc. Any help appreciated.

Welcome, waf.

The message means you need to update your currently used driver in order to play the game. Refer to the README/minimum requirements of the game and see which driver they suggest.

Which game?

Which driver version you currently use?

Refer to the README/minimum requirements of the game and see which driver they suggest.

Also keep in mind that when updating the drivers to a 5x.xx version you may be affected from the BlackBar:

http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index....findpost&p=4702

Due to the fact that you have a model which is NOT in our tested "database" (see topic) we need more details about your Laptop model, which means you should run DXDIAG.EXE and post&attach the result here. A signature with current system specs is not only appreciated by me, but also by other (also passive) users who visit & read the forum and have the same Laptop as you :)

Thanks,

sorry for not supplying enough info, hope this helps.

Game requirements

9) Graphics cards

SILENT HILL 3 requires a graphics card with 3D hardware acceleration and at least 32 MB of VRAM on the card, along with 256 MB or more of system RAM. The drivers for your graphics card must support DirectX 8.1b or higher. If you are having any problems running the game, make sure to update your graphics card drivers.

SILENT HILL 3 officially supports the following graphics chipsets:

NVIDIA GeForceFX, GeForce4Ti, GeForce3Ti (GeForce MX series not supported.)

ATI Radeon 9800, 9700, 9600, 9500, 9200, 9100, 9000, 8500

Matrox Parhelia

ANTI-ALIASING

If your card supports anti-aliasing, do not manually select the anti-aliasing mode within your graphics card settings in Windows. For SILENT HILL 3, you will need to keep the default setting, which allows the application to control the anti-aliasing mode. The default setting for anti-aliasing should be listed as "Allow applications to control the anti-aliasing mode," "Application preference," or something similar. If you manually turn on anti-aliasing, it will cause graphical glitches to appear when running the SILENT HILL 3 program.

KNOWN ISSUES

There are some known issues with the very latest graphics chipsets available. It is likely that most of these known issues will be fixed in future driver releases from the graphic chip manufacturers. We recommend that you keep your graphics card drivers updated, by checking the manufacturer's web site regularly for new drivers. A list of the most common hardware manufacturers' web sites can be found at the end of this document.

If you set Rendering Resolution at 2048 x 2048 on ATI Radeon 9200 or below, graphics corruption may occur. Reducing Rendering Resolution to 2048 x 1024 or below will correct this issue.

ATI Radeon 9800, 9700, 9600, 9500, 9200, 9100, 9000, 8500 - With the latest drivers available at the time this was written, you may experience some flickering on the new ATI Radeon cards. We expect this to be fixed in new driver releases from ATI, so make sure to update your graphic card drivers regularly.

Further to my last post, having not been able to resolve this frustrating problem which I believe means that I will not be able to play any of the newer games on my laptop I rang the Toshiba support line for their advice. Their answer was simply keep your drivers updated from their website. I pointed out to them that they have no new drivers for the 2450 so how can I keep them updated?

Their answer you will have to use a desktop or upgrade your laptop. Thanks Toshiba laptop is 12 months old and cost 3k I shall just update it then shall I!

that was the easy part :) now to the more interesting one.

As your card doesn have an integrated pixel and vertex shader, all this have to be done through the driver itself.

I suggest you upgrade first to 52.16 with an old INF or 20.36 ( http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?showforum=11 ), and try starting SH again. If the error message still appears, use 56.72 with the newest INF ( http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?showtopic=573 ) and report back if you have a black bar with that driver here: http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?showtopic=202

Maybe someone can jump in who played Silent Hill on a 32 MB GF4 420 Go card and report whats goin on here

It's the game.. Like the error message says: "You need a minimum 32mb Vram and a programmable pixel/vertex shader" ..

The GeForce4 420 Go does not support programmable pixel/vertex shaders.. so you're out of luck... unless the game developers decide to release a patch to support the GF4 Go/MX cards.

Games like Silent Hill 3 and Splinter Cell 2 won't be able to play on the 420 Go's. There is a way to get the shaders to work, using software.. but these games will be unplayable running at 1-4fps.

SILENT HILL 3 officially supports the following graphics chipsets:

NVIDIA GeForceFX, GeForce4Ti, GeForce3Ti (GeForce MX series not supported.)

so geforce4 420go :) :) :(

:P :P :(

  • 5 weeks later...

Yes, i can confirm this now.

I tested SH3 with my GF4 460 Go. It coulkd't load and brings up the mentioned message.

GeForce MX series not supported
As MX is NV17 and 460Go is NV17=no support for 420,440,460 GO
