Black bar on Toshiba SP6100

Hello there. I'm hoping that some kind soul out there can help me. I recently installed Windows XP Professional with service pack 2 on my Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100. Following installation I have developed a vertical black bar on the right hand side of my screen. My old screen resolution was 1024x768 on a NVidia Geoforce 420 GO card using driver 6.13.10.2724. Now I have the lovely black bar....

The new 'improved' version only allows a maximum resolution of 969x768 using driver version 6.14.10.5673. I gather this is not an uncommon problem, but I wonder if someone can please help me with this. My system details are:
