i have exactly the same problem, but since we can overclock with some drivers, couldnt it be solved without us having to flash our graphic cards?

although i can underclock the card, the clocks cannot exceed the default clocks which are 475/400

The 8600M GT (512MB DDR2, despite what RiveTuner says) can easily do 500/500, probably the safes overclock settings with a nice 300-400 point increase. Yet as stated we only seem to be able to overclock with some 101.xx drivers and we see best preformence with the 2 newer 163.xx drivers. So we wanna know what even better preformence we could get with OCing the newer drivers. I have a C90 with a killer CPU and its being out shined by a G1S and a G2S (256MB DDR3, damnit), this notebooks suppose to be better.

I want to so badly try out a 8600M GT (256MB DDR3) to see if the C90 can surpass the G series like it should.

You guys who can't overclock your video card need to flash the bios to allow them to be overclocked, do a google search on overclocking go 7900 gs or something like that.

But the problem that I have with this driver is that nTune and ATItool and everything else now cannot monitor the temperature of my card, I am trying to figure out a way to make it monitor temperature again.

Well.... riva tuner 2.03 is advertised as working for the 160 drivers, and guess what, on desktops downloads it does!! I think that the drivers on this site have some sort of modifications to them, thus the smaller size... but also the reason riva tuner does not work now... If i'm wrong please correct me.

Now don't confuse these issues.. The older versions of riva tuner worked on the 158.45 desktop/mobile modified and under drivers, but not the 160's... The new 2.03 riva tuner works on all of them (atleast for desktops).

All in all... I think some coding that effects riva tuner 2.03 was deleted from the latest drivers on this site.

- Improved hardware monitoring module:

im so confused :)

sumbody wrote we've to update / change our vBios settings to o/c our cards (i have a macbook pro / nv 8600m gt 256mb), but with the standard retail drivers a can o/c (from standard clock 470 / 635 to o/c 560 / 890).

so, what is the problem at all that we cant o/c with a new driver? driver restrictions? do the tools (atitool, ntune, powerstrip) not cooperate with these drivers? i just dont know where to begin with testing / changing stuff to finaly be able to o/c with a newer driver than the retail ones...except of the 101.xx, cuz this arent so new as well...

any new suggestions?

I was trying with few driver tweakers, even with direct registry changes, but nothing worked :/

And what is important, drivers with enabled o/c don't have PowerMizer :/ So there are two possibilities: o/c and poor performance or no o/c, good performance, PowerMizer and nView...

I'm not a computer specialist so I'm afraid of modifing videocard bios :/

i dont think that we have to mod the vBios, cuz o/c works fine with retail drivers...so this cant be a vBios prob at all, it must be drivers related...

i've just tested the new driver and o/c: doesnt work! not with powerstrip, atitool nor rivatuner :)

here is one benchmark to compare:

Doom 3, 1440x900, Ulra High Details, No FSAA No AF (timedemo demo1)

Stock Driver o/c 560/890 = 88.6 FPS

This driver w/o o/c 470/635 = 76.8 FPS

I have the same issues. These drivers effectively disable my ability to O/C on my Quadro FX 570 Mobile card. None of the 15X.XX or 16X.XX drivers allow me to O/C. My Quadro is just an 8600GT with a different bios. With O/Cing I could score over 5K in 06 in XP. Any help would help. Neither ATI-tool or RivaTuner will work.

I have been finding on the Dell M1710 with 7950 GTX video card this has been the only driver I have been able to install without instant BSOD nv4_disp infinite loop error. However when I start windows it does a 30 second video delay but it doesnt error. Does anyone know if anything other than Dell drivers work on this laptop/video card combo because from what I have seen there are lots of ppl who have this problem. The Dell drivers are old and theres been lots of game fixes with newer drivers and Dell is very slow about releasing drivers claiming it takes a long time to verify that they work with their hardware which is bs.

Great! I don't get blue screens when playing Bioshock anymore! Playing in high detail at 1280x800. Performance increased drastically compared to my old NGO 9792 modified drivers in all the games (specially in Bioshock and Need for Speed Most Wanted, the two games I'm playing now). I reccomend this driver!

Note: I RECOMMEND usin this method:

Uninstall the driver from add-remove programs

reboot into safemode (F8 at startup)

use Driver Sweeper to remove remaining nVidia driver components

reboot into regular mode

install a different version of the drivers

i tried this earlier but it didnt really work well for me..

it seemed like it might work (no funky lines,etc) but after reboot the lines showed themselves for a few seconds and then went away..than after another reboot,same thing but then got stuck on my desktop than went back to normal..so i uninstalled..still serching for a driver that will work for me..

ok . so I have been lurking on here for quite awhile but just recently signed up.

I spent 1 day installing drivers, and finally ,THANK GOD, settled on this one.

Alienware m9700

AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology ML-34

NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS (SLI)

1 gig of ram (Yes I will get another)

This makes my computer smoke.

I am getting 1440 x900 on Bioshock

The game looks freakin' awesome.

I was running the 163.44 ,(not at 1440 only would let me push 800x600) before and did not get the same perfomance as this one is giving me. (had to go back and play again.)

So now Bioshock will runs with everything maxed.

COD4 is maxed and running very well.

Doom is maxed

Crysis is running smooth as silk had some issues with 163.44, lots of lag and stutter.

But now all I do is giggle and shoot.

I am running this fairly well but am having alot of lag stutter issues. Maybe because it need 2 gigs of ram to run and I only have 1..WAAAHHHH!

I can enable SLI with this driver.

But I thought I would let everyone know that, I appreciate all the input you give, and thought I would give alittle of my own.

This is my sweet spot as it looks.

All these games seem to boot faster and load alot quicker for me.

In all my lappy is running sweet.
