ElFi
Over a year ago I wrote an application modifies the LSI firmware. With this type of card can modify without programming SBR. There are many other options: replacement and modification of modules, rename :) Unfortunately, since not develop this application for lack of time .... The SBR is practically nothing, everything is NVDATA. I modified the module NVDATA, so my M5015 controller detects as LSI 9260-8i. It was enough to upload the modded firmware and nothing more. Disappeared 2 minutes waiting time for disks. After that I had no time for further work and left on the side, but if some work is with the other users have met activation system "MegaRAID Advanced Software Options" by modifying the firmware. I've got a LSI9261-8i coming over so I can compare cards/Firmware The SBR is only handy for just quickly changing the M5015 slow boot, any other SBR makes for a much faster boot. Is there a version of the SW for me to have a look at ?

MrTweeks
Great work on the M5014, guys! I've read a lot of info, especially from mobilenvidia I do have a question; which SRB / FW (BIOS) combination will produce the best boot time? Right now i am running the latest FW on my M5014. But the boot time is killing! I also discovered some other things; -If you get a memory error when using MegaRec from a self-built BOOT USB, try the BOOT CD's. They work better. -In some consumer boards the M5014 will not flash without a problem. In case of the Asus P6T, it will only work on the FIRST blue PCI slot. (Where your first videocard normally goes) -As i've also read somewhere, it seems that motherboards with integrated video have less trouble flashing the card. Another question i have; In the FW changelog a security check is mentioned that is suppose to prevent cross flashing. Is this working, and / or the cause of the painstaking slow boot/Init? I hope you guys find the time to answer,... i've got some serious raiding to do!
mobilenvidia
Make a backup of your SBR with megarec Then grab LSI SBR flash this, you may have cleanflash first as later FW stops SBR crossflashing
rafale
Hi guys, I am going to start soon with experimenting with a Dell PERC H800. This basically is a H700 (9260) with external SAS ports. According to documentation the device cannot be used with sata disks, it's worth a try using the LSI 9280-8e firmware which supposed to be cross flashable (and which does support sata disks). I ordered some external SAS SFF-8088 to SATA fanout cables on ebay to try. Can anyone post/email (dump with megarec) an original LSI 9280-8e SBR file? I read a 9260 SBR could be used and works, but the original 9280-8e SBR probably is the cleanest solution. Thanks! Keep you posted if I have any results. The Dell Perc h800 are quite cheap on ebay these days. Edited July 31, 2013 by rafale
rafale
After all I didnt need to crossflash my Dell Perc H800 The Dell Perc H800 (=LSI 9280-8e) works fine with sata disks when you use latest firmware and use cheap ebay external SAS SFF 8088 to sata fanout cables. No support ofcourse since Dell officially only supports SAS disks. So for €90 euro's I bought the H800 on ebay, and for €30 the two fanout cables to support 8 sata disks. It might nog be the most beautiful solution (External connector which goes back into the case through PCI slot ;)). But for €120 total the performance of a battery backed Dell H800 PCIE 8x cannot be beaten. Grab them from ebay while they are cheap. Connected 4x 750GB sata disks now, just imported my old raid5 config (from Perc5/i) and working great (170-250 MB transfer). Ordering 4x 3TB disks soon, to create additonal 9TB RAID5 redundant storage. Edited August 16, 2013 by rafale

Ordering 4x 3TB disks soon, to create additonal 9TB RAID5 redundant storage. Sorry to bring back an old thread but is there something I am missing here. I have just aquired a Perc H800 Adapter and bought some fanout cables for it and I cant get it to detect any drives at all (even SAS). I updated the firmware from the Dell website to the latest and it made no difference. I tried a different H800 card and it was just the same. I am suspecting it may be the cables but it would be odd that it would be both cables that would be duff. Any help you can give? mobilenvidia
The cables need are forward cables ie controller to drive There are reverse cables which combine 4x SATA/SAS port to a controller ie on a Mobo 4x sata ports to an expander The cables are directional, it's very easy to do as you can't tell them apart visually Example here http://www.cableleader.com/cables/mini-sas-cables/0-5m-30awg-internal-mini-sas-36pin-sff-8087-male-w-latch-to-sata-7pin-femalex4-forward-breakout-cable.html
bearhntr
I have followed the steps from this posting =======================================[begin]LSI 9260 based controller Firmware page. Here all the latest LSI SAS2108 based FW can be found. It includes FW from LSI, IBM, Dell, Oracle, SuperMicro, Fujitsu and Intel.sas2108How to flash the SAS2108 based cards:Make a bootable DOS USB disk (Google it)Place the above files on the USBBoot to USBMegarec -cleanflash 0 (0 = if only one LSI card in computer, you'll need to work out which number to flash if more than one)Reboot to USBMegarec -m0flash 0 0xxx_yyy.rom (xxx= version number, yyy= OEM version)Megarec -writesbr 0 sbrzzzzz.bin (zzzzz= Card type you are trying to flash to, only really needed with M5014/5015)RebootDoneLatest BIOS from Firmware Package 12.12.0-0124BIOS 3.25.00_4.12.05.00_0x05180000.00 7/25/20Use Megarec or Megacli or MSM to flash to controller, nothing else will be updated only BIOS==========================================[end]I have an IBM M5015 controller which was not seeing any HDDs installed in my X3500 (7977) server. I installed a longer cable from the backplane to the controller, and disabled the ONBOARD SAS - as nothing was attached to it. None of the HDDs were seen in the Web Setup tool, although they all lit up on boot up. The server has an IBM ServeRAID 8k-l controller - which is like a DIMM (server does not boot without it installed).I was told this was because the HDDs were not IBM and the controller was looking for specific drives. It was suggested that I flash the controller to the 9260-8i. I found the steps above, and performed them exactly. Now when I boot the server I am no longer getting the BIOS information for the controller card. I get nothing at all.Did I kill my controller? Can it be fixed? Please help.*BH*
