Benchmark results for NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS (willandjenny)

Recommended Posts

after several default 3Dmark06 runs, i had several odd scores yesterday. as high as 2022, as low as 908. i'm not sure what the trouble was, maybe temps getting too high? no artifacts during the testing though.

OC'ed to 509 core/1130 shaders/475 memory i ran with a score of 2076 today. core temp was 80 at its highest. not a terrible score i suppose.

thanks for the BIOS info. yea i'll probably just use RivaTuner like you said to do my tuning, so its not OC'ed all the time.

Can you tell me what driver you are using? TY.

  • 1 month later...

I'm new to the whole O/C, but I have recently used the 169.04 drivers in order to O/C, and I've had good results.

I have an HP dv6780se. Vista Home Premium, 32 bit; 3GB DD22; GeForce 8400M GS 256MB

I used Rivatuner 2.08 to O/C.

Drivers: 169.04

I have O/C'd 575/500 and used nTUNE to perform the stability test with no problems. Temp's don't go above 60^.

I can't go any higher than 500 without issues, and I think I can actually go 600 on the core (will test tonight). 600 is the max according to Rivatuner, unless I am doing something wrong.

Initially this machine had an Aero Graphics score of 3.1, but with these drivers and O/Cing, I get Aero Graphics up to 4.0 and Gaming Graphics up to 4.8.

I don't have the ability to download 3dmarkXX, as I am in Iraq on the military network....

Has anyone done anything different and received better results?

Hello Toj

I am in Iraq on the military network....

:) Good luck ...

Look upper at my post (page1 of this topic)

I have an HP too , but a bit older dv 6585ef (8400GS 128MB)

This laptop is very well cooled, i have too very low T°C but i can't OC so high ,

Memory frequency > 530 --> Artefacts

GPU frequency > 530 ---> Blue screen sometime

Vista 3.8 4.8

On HP laptop (wich have a very good cooling system) it would be intersting to increase a bit the voltage of GPU&Mem to reach higher frequency ... but how to ???

Good luck in Iraqi

Hello everyone.

I'm Jon,

(EVERYONE: "Hi, Jon")

I program computer games as a college degree,

I would consider myself a computer nerd,

But I am a Graphics/Overclocking nubile.

M'kay, so a few brief questions:

firstly: where do I check my memory type and my FSB speeds? eg. GDDR2/3 ? Its not in dxdiag and silly me, I dont know where to look.

My system is an HP Pavillion dv6000/6500 series.

Windows Vista Premium 32-bit

Core 2 Duo T7300 @ 2.00 GHz, 4MB cache

2GB Ram with 4+GB pagefile

Nvidia Geforce 8400M S

- DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC (?)

- Total Memory 880MB ( 128MB on Card )

Main Driver version 7.15.0011.6743 Nov 7 2007

And, to date, what is the most effective video driver for this card at the moment? I've heard rumour that at a certain point older drivers actually work better than newer ones. So im undecided which to install.

Oh and just to add I occassionaly encounter artefacts issues when I play CSS for any great length of time. The Video Stress Test gives me a score of 77.4 fps.

i'm Fabio the guy that write the post before you... i have the same notebook...

you can download GPU-Z to know any tipe of information of your GPU :)

the to OC you must have rivatuner 2.08 and atitool to diagnostic artifacts....remeber that....you can't OC with driver above 169.04.......above you must edit you bios.....

:) bye

Ive seen that alot of you have this card, and use 169.04 drivers, but I really dont know how to install them , Im using the drivers that ive downloaded form HP web, they are forceware 156.65, Ive downloaded here 169.04 drivers and many more that says that support my video card but when i try to install I see the message that the drivers dont work with the card or something like that, if someone coud help me how to install them I'll thank you somuch, another thing, I see that 169xx series are for desktop gpus, so , how do you install in the laptop??

Im sick with this because the drivers im using now sucks, and with vista aero score i just get 3.2 in aero graphics, and I see that other users get more with the same gpu, Id like to overclock but I cant with the drivers.... i hope you guys will help me

Yeah i will do so during the day ...

But in the mean time here's some OVERCLOCKED benchmark (Stock Speed = 400/400) , can't get the Memory more the 475 since it freeze after and give me a driver error.

DRIVER : 169.04

SPEED : 450/475

3DMARK 06 : 1904

SPEED : 500/475

3DMARK 06 : 1972

3DMARK 06 : 2133

SPEED : 650/475

3DMARK 06 : 2195

After a fresh install and Some Tweking , here's the best result still with 169.04

SPEED : 650/495

I did test it and they gave me the worst score so far with 3d06

163.75 STOCK (400/400)

3D06 : 1494

So they are a no go ..

Still looking for some other O/Cable driver

Thanks for this thread, really helped me out in deciding what route to go with mine. Heres my tests so far.

core2 duo T5550 1.83GHz

3GB of ram

on Vista Home Premium 32Bit

and of course 8400M GS

3DMark05 - (default settings for free version 1.3)

overclock using ATI Tool 0.27

156.69

Default (400/600) - 3256

169.04

Default (400/600) - 3418

OC'd (475/700) - 4051

There wasn't much (if any) temperature change between the default settings and small overclock. Probably gonna take it up another day and see how far I can take it.

Strange ,because the stock clock is 400/400 , how come your's is 400/600 ??? and how much ram you have on your GS ?

My default clocks are 400/600. Thats what GPU-Z and ATI tool show, and it also states that on the Nvidia website?

http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8400M.html

GPU-Z screen shot

gpuz.png

Edit: So I did some research and re-read some stuff and it seems the DDR2 8400M's come stock at 400/400 and the DDR3's come at 400/600

Here's a list of all the benchmark i've done so far ..

There's alot , and still can do some more ...

So far the best drive in stock form (400/400) are the 174.60 driver and they seem to be better in NFS PS , i can play with everything on HIGH settings :)

But on a side note , the only driver im able to overclock with is the 169.04 driver , all the other i haven't been able to do so :)

O.k ...

Here's one thing i notice about the benchmark that is not correct ...

Everybody is doing the benchmark and comparing their score ... BUT ....

How can you compare , when some are 1024 * 768 and some are 1280 * 768

So those benchmark are not correct ...

All my benchmark have been made at 1280 * 768

Here's a little comparaison between the 2 bench

1280 * 768 = 2074

instead of

1024 * 768 = 2337

Sooo ... like i said , all my benchmark are made with 1280 * 768 settings

Hi there folks, I'm new to the laptop oc world, but not the oc world in general and I wondered if you could peek at something for me. New laptop and I swear it's dog slow in some game apps. Here are my 2 recent benchmarks.

System:

HP DV9000T

T9300 Core 2 Duo 2.5Ghz

3 GB Ram

Dual 120GB 7200RPM drives

Nvidia 8600M GS (duh)

3D Mark06 (1280x1024)

Windows Vista 64 Ultimate

First drivers and modded inf

169.12 (Stock GPU 500/400 Mem/1000 Shader)

2374

Round 2

169.04 (GP 565/455 Mem/1130 Shader)

2698

Seems brutally low to me. Anyone else think so? Even pre-oc those numbers are rough. Suggestions? Really appreciate the help
