I have been using the realtek drivers for my mobo with built in sound card. Would I be better off using an external card? Say like one from creative labs? Or is my onboard sound good enough?? I think the onboard Realtek audio device is fine. I would be more concerned with the speaker sound system that is connected to your mobo; quality of speakers is also important; hooking up powered speakers (ones with hardware volume control on the speakers themselves and have a separate power cord or using usb powered speakers like the Dell AX210 usb powered speakers, those came with my family's Dell Inspiron 620 desktop PC) makes the realtek audio device sound very good the only time I would consider buying an external sound card is when the onboard Realtek audio hardware stops working altogether (a symptom of this is when "Realtek High Definition Audio" device no longer appears in the "Sound, video and game controllers" section in Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) along with the corresponding "High Definition Audio Controller" device in the "System devices" section of Device Manager; I've seen this happen with an old HP computer using their proprietary M2N68-LA Narra2 mobo where the onboard Realtek ALC888S audio device no longer produces sound and it's Device no longer shows up in Device Manager - turns out that motherboard was faulty and was replaced with a M2N68-LA Narra3 board which had better working Realtek audio device). I have been using the FF00 version for ages on my PC and I decided to try the FF03 variant (My mobo is MSI) and I didn't notice any difference whatsoever. no new control panel applets, no new effects, nothing. I tried the other variants earlier this year and i had some problems. I had high dpc latencies or even much more crystal sound with the loss of system stability. I dont recommend you doing it. And i guess one of them were really out of the combability chart so it gave me bluescreens. 00 is generic and other variants are for those specific soundcard integrations as these guys said to me. FMAPO, Nahimic, Maxxaudio, Creative etc. are some audio enhancers - but only certain few Realtek audio chipsets actually use them and not all Realtek audio chipsets can support them. FF01 (FMAPO) - used mostly on Lenovo / NEC based machines with Realtek audio FF03 (Nahimic) - used mostly on ASUS ROG (republic of gamers) laptops & motherboards and MSI gaming laptops & boards with Nahimic audio [ex. Slewi Posted April 21, 2019 Report Share Posted April 21, 2019 (edited) Apologies if this has ended up in the wrong section Have got a realtek soundcard with Intel SST (Win 10 1809) Uninstalled previous driver via DDU Now i have installed ver 8683.1 driver (FF0C) from Stasio link - Unzipped FF0C ver Installed as i have done with the setup .exe icon But after rebooting - Speaker icon has a red cross and there is no sound So really what i am asking - With these drivers that you unzip - FF00 FF0C etc etc Is there a specific way of installing these HDA drivers ??
