NVTweak

Recommended Posts

I just installed NVTray, NVTweak, and the coolbits.reg file.

How do I bring up the Clock Frequencies so that I can overclock my video card?

When I right-click on my desktop and select Properties, then go to Settings, then Advanced, then on the GeForce 8800 Ultra tab, there's no Clock Frequencies tab available.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

NV changed things and you need a tool called NTune in order to change OC.

That being said we probably need to update the FAQ on this and other tools especially for Vista users.

Like MagicSoul, the OSD doesn't turn on for me. It doesn't matter which options I choose on the OSD Settings tab, the OSD just doesn't appear when I run a game. I tried it on several DirectX games, so it's not isolated to one game.

Other bugs:

* When I try to access the Hardware > Screen Resolution submenu, NVTray eats up 100% of my first core for about 10 seconds. Only after that does the menu appear.

* Adding or removing tabs from the Nvidia Control Panel has no effect. I close the NCP, add or remove tabs then when I reload the NCP, nothing's changed.

GC: Point of View GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB.

Drivers: Forceware 160.04 beta for Vista x86

same problems! :)

I'm alsow using Win Vista 32Bit... and 8800GTS 320MB

driver version 171.16

9500M GS (Fan Control) [uNRESOLVED]

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium (64) and I have a 9500M GS in my G1Sn-B1. I've been making every possible attempt at controlling, or at least adjusting my fan speed options. There is only one fan in my notebook and it is currently set to correlate with the temperature thresholds of the CPU (and not the GPU?). I have asked the manufacturer (ASUS), if they could please release an updated system BIOS or VIDEO BIOS that will appropriately adjust the fan RPM's for the heat generated by the GPU; however, they have repeadedly refreshed my knowledge of their support policy regarding heat dissipation on my particular model and insist 96C is within their safe zone. They say it is controlled by the hardcoded diode within the GPU's chipset, but knowledge I've collected through hundreds of threads have made me believe otherwise, and that an adjustment is possible. The fan has four or five wires according to an Genentech Hardware Specialist who builds customized G1's. I have tried disabling Powermizer in the system registry, but that doesn't do anything. You see: my card will downclock at 96C, but it appears that this is the exact temp. the fan will kick in to 100% capacity. So I will either be lucky and the fan will kick in and the GPU will quickly cool 10 degrees and I can continue running Crysis at awesome playability (All settings Very High w/ Shaders and Shadows on High), or the GPU will downclock and the games will crash. I cannot reset the downclock unless I restart. It is very annoying and it makes me very determined to adjust the one or two degrees to freedom. This card is pretty damn good and I get a stable maximum overclock at 655-1524-488 (Generic PnP Monitor: 702-1620-486) earning 5962 3D Marks in 3DMark06 at 1024x768.

RivaTuner, nTune, and many others, all have the fan options either greyed out, or just not present. Any help will be much, much, appreciated. I am patiently waiting on Nibitor to fully support my chipset/vga, since I believe it's my only option left (flashing the Video BIOS). I am pretty bummed about this whole faulty chips shenanigans going on two, but I'll just join the world of computer owners on that one and slap myself with another reason why I shoulda held out a few more months before I bought this lovely POS.

Oh, and NVTray shows that I'm running DX 9.0c when in fact I'm running 10 (Just in case you wanted a little something for the benefit of this awesome app.).

If anyone could tell me where the fan options are in NVTray (Not just the check-box enabling the option); that would be awesome!

I'm reposting this, because I don't think I did it right last time.

Um.. sorry for the silly question but I wonder what's this program purposes? I mean, I already have it installed and double-click the taskbar icon and the NVTweak window comes up and I click "Enable All" and that's it? I mean I don't see anything have changed because of the NVTweak. The NVidia default control panel are looking just the same as before so it seems that this NVTweak does nothing to my system LOL. Can someone explain what's the purpose of this software?

Well, I'm a long time user of ATI Tray Tools and I've found it very useful (if it can't be said that I can't live without it LOL), eg. it have those great in-game OSD features, application profiles, the ability to take ss from any game, etc. Honestly, ATT maybe the ony reason I'm still in ATI's side all these years LOL, until just recently when my last ATI cards were dead and I need to write some GPGPU program so I'm switching to NVidia but I can't seem to find another great tools like ATT for NVidia ~_~; But anyway I think this program is in the right track so keep it up guys. And one advice.. maybe you guys could just copy all the ATT looks and features? I think it will be great! Hahah.. I know that impossible but oh well I'm just asking :)

Cheers.

Running nVTweak 2.1.4 on my Dell Inspiron 1720 with 1920x1200 native screen resolution and nVidia GeForce 8600M GT video under Windows XP Pro SP3. Want to enable virtual desktop of a size that exceeds native screen resolution. A virtual desktop exceeding screen resolution is supposedly supported by TwinView, and TwinView Override is selected (checked) in nVTweak which should allow TwinView settings with a single display, but I am not seeing any change in the nVidia Control Panel that would allow me to enable a virtual desktop exceeding native screen resolution. How can I do this?

nVidia BIOS 60.84.50.00.02, nVidia Control Panel version 185.85, nVidia drivers 6.14.11.8585.

Thanks,

Kevin M.

Never mind, finally figured it out. Added custom resolution greater than native screen resolution (in my case both 2560x1600 and 3840x2400 worked fine) via Manage Custom Resolutions in the NEW nVidia Control Panel, then selected those resolutions via Change Resolution. Worked great, panned around screen with mouse to view entire virtual display area. Note that the OLD nVidia Control Panel would not allow me to add a custom resolution greater than native screen resolution.

Hi

I tried these on the M1730 and well not much luck with any of the options I was looking for fan control and hack to boost the card which is now sitting at 200MhZ back to the original factory 500MhZ since the temperatures stay really unmodified at 52~54Celsious anyways my drivers are stock 186.03. I Did have some sucesss in overclocking these with nvtweak and the modded 179.48 they sat at 500mHz even when I unistalled nVtweak but it wont work with any other drivers modded or not.

I would apprecciate if anyone would have any insight to which registry key is controlling the powermizer settings that make the card slow down, I apprecciated what the new drivers are trying to do but no matter what I do they dont budge from 200MhZ these are the s***ty 9800M GT that dell is pushing now. Ive had new cards mobo and still at same results. No intensive 3D stuff will make any difference on performance. Im using Lavalys Everest to monitor the whole system.

Thx in advance

That link is giving me a permission denied error.

Actually, the whole "Tools and Technology" subforum gives me that error.

Well, not if I click that link - it first tells me that there were no topics found, and only after I change the settings from "From: Today" to "Show All" I can select three topics, which I then am not allowed to view (see above).

Did I miss anything? Not enough posts?

Hi, after I had some trouble enabling 3D stereo view on my 6800GT i found this nice site and the nvTweak.

Currently I play around with the Vista driver version 174.76 and 3D stereo driver version 174.74 under Win7.

My problem is,that I can select only anagplyh as 3D display.

Even enabling the "Show all viewer types" does not help.

All registry tweaks I have found so far did not help ..

Any idea ?

Thabnks and regards

Hermann

The site for NVTray & NVTweak point here for support, so i'd like to know if these utilities are too old to be of any use anymore. And if they are only for AGP type Video cards or both PCI-e or ???

The reason i ask is my registry has some NVTweak keys in it which i'd rather delete (why weren't the keys deleted on uninstall??) or if these utilities still serve good features i might want to re-install them again, either way i'd like to know, or be updated on this.

Thanks in advance.
