Issues Resolved in Version 91.31

The following are changes made and issues resolved since driver version 91.28:

    Single-GPU Issues Resolved
  • NVIDIA Control Panel: SLI Antialiasing option is erroneously visible at the 3D Settings->Manage 3D Settings page.
SLI AA settings are now available in the Antialiasing Settings control. Selecting SLI AA will override the predefined SLI rendering mode for applications with a profile.
  • NVIDIA Control Panel: The 3D preview image in the Adjust Image Settings with Preview page does not update when "Balanced" is selected on the slider.
  • NVIDIA Control Panel: The Red/Green/Blue Color settings are not saved when closing and then re-opening the panel.
  • Improved mouse performance on Oblivion.
  • GeForce 7950 GX2, NVIDIA Control Panel: 8x and 16xS antialiasing settings on application profiles are not saved when closing and reopening the control panel.
  • GeForce 7950 GX2, Windows XP Professional x64, NVIDIA Control Panel: An error message appears when opening the Adjust Image Setting with Preview page.
  • GeForce 7950 GX2, NVIDIA Control Panel: After selecting Alternate frame 2 from the Multi-GPU performance mode list box, the setting reverts to Alternate frame rendering when reopening the panel.
  • GeForce 7900 GTX: WMV content is corrupted when played in overlay mode.
  • GeForce 7900 GT/GS: Model position graph editor response is slow in the Lightwave 8.5 Layout workbench.
  • GeForce 7800, NVIDIA Control Panel: "Always run fan at highest speed" option in the Adjust Overclock Settings page is not accessible.
  • GeForce 7300 LE/GS: The HD file "PBS - Omaha Zoo RR.mpg" shows corruption when played after playing an inverse telecine clip.
  • GeForce 6600 GT: 'Cannot play file' error occurs when attempting to play an MPEG file with Full-screen Video Mirror enabled under nView Clone mode.
  • GeForce 5200 FX: 709 colorspace not properly displayed on high-definition content.

    SLI Technology Issues Resolved
  • [sLI]: SLI performance is evident on bridgeless boards only if antialiasing is enabled using the driver control panel.
  • [sLI]: Cold War, protected with Star Force, does not respond to SLI multi-GPU mode.
  • NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 X2, SLI: After enabling SLI, the SLI menu disappears from the classic NVIDIA control panel.
  • Windows XP Professional x64, NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500, SLI: The system freezes after enabling SLI and Frame Sync.
  • NVIDIA Quadro FX 4400, SLI Workstation: There is no video when running the Sleeper test.
  • GeForce 7950 GX2, SLI: Oblivion hangs with SLI mode enabled.

Open Issues in Version 91.31

    NVIDIA Issues - Single GPU
  • Memory clocks displayed do not reflect DDR multiplier. The memory clocks themselves are running at the correct speeds.
  • The NVIDIA Control Panel-> Workstation-> Frame Sync-> View system topology page is corrupted after the page is redrawn several times.
  • The NVIDIA Control Panel-> Workstation-> Frame Sync page crashes after disabling Dualview mode.
  • NVIDIA Control Panel Category Pages: Foreign language text exceeds the boundary of category windows.
  • Interlaced HDTV formats cannot be set in the NVIDIA Control panel.
  • Error message occurs when running the NVIDIA Control Panel Television Setup Wizard.
  • After playing a video file with full-screen video mirroring, the video image remains on the secondary display after disabling full-screen video mirroring.
  • The NVIDIA Control Panel: After selecting HD Component 480i/576P/720 format, the Color Quality slider in the Change Resolution page is grayed out.
  • The NVIDIA Control Panel crashes when setting the resolution to 1280x1024 while the Synchronize Display page is opened.
  • NVIDIA Control Panel: 'SLI ... has been disabled' pop-up message appears on non-SLI capable systems.
  • NVIDIA Control Panel: The digital display cannot be set to its native resolution when the analog display is set as the primary display under nView Clone or Spanning modes.
  • NVIDIA Control Panel: There is no Clone, Span, or Dualview mode option when CRT, DVI dongle, and HDTV are connected at the same time.
  • There may be intermittent application compatibility issues with dual core CPUs.
If you experience this issue, you can work around it by toggling off multi-thread optimizations using the following instructions:
1 Launch regedit and determine the current primary display card by looking in HKey_Local_Machine\Hardware\DeviceMap\Video and note the GUID (global unique identifier assigned by Windows), which is the long string in brackets { } at the end of the entry "\device\video0".
2 Look in HKey_Local_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{GUID}\0000 where {GUID} is the number derived from the previous step.
3 Open the "0000" directory and create a new DWORD called OGL_ThreadControl and give it a value of 2. This will disable multithreading in the driver for all OpenGL applications.
4 If you want to disable driver multithreading for all Direct3D applications:
In the same "0000" directory, create a new DWORD called WTD_EXECMODEL and give it a value of 0.
  • All GPUs: When adding Custom Resolutions, the user is not allowed to select the "monitor scaling" option.
  • Windows XP: The system crashes after enabling NVKeystone with antialiasing enabled.
  • Video color-space range for DVI-only ("DVI-only" means only one display is connected, and it is to the DVI output) outputs is erroneously set to standard mode (16-235) instead of extended mode (0-255).
A new detection feature to apply Standard CSC mode to TV outputs (including NTSC, PAL, 480i, and 576i), included DVI-only outputs by mistake.
Note: The driver correctly applies extended mode to analog outputs, and standard mode to TV outputs (including NTSC, PAL, 480i, and 576i).
A future driver release will correct this and apply the extended-mode color space to DVI-only outputs.
You can work around this issue by forcing either standard or extended mode as follows:
1 Launch regedit and determine the current primary display card by looking in HKey_Local_Machine\Hardware\DeviceMap\Video and note the GUID (global unique identifier assigned by Windows), which is the long string in brackets { } at the end of the entry "\device\video0".
2 Look in HKey_Local_Machine\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{GUID}\0000 where {GUID} is thenumber derived from the previous step.
3 Open the "0000" directory and create a new DWORD called VMRCCCSStatus and give it a value of
0x3 - to force use of the standard YUV range of 16-235
0x1 - to force use of the extended YUV range of 0-255

The driver is available now at www.nzone.com

Btw, how did you have the modded inf ready before the driver was even released?

Here is the full link:

The INF file is a configuration template which remains unmodified most of the time unless nVidia throw out a new series of driver with significant changes.

There have already been Forceware 90 releases, so he assumed there were going to be no changes to how it is done with this new .31 release.

There is the full page.

I'll go yell at Pieter for you guys.

Ya get on him necause that one at the link is missing a bunch of DLLs when I try to install it.

Missing DLL files?

He hasn't uploaded the driver here yet.

You should be able to download from nvidia and after it unzips to C:/Nvidia or whatever (before it installs), replace with the mod INF and then install it.

So am trying to find a place with a good version.

This is going to be a mammoth upload these 2 huge drivers, poor modem :)

Supposedly these drivers have some minor bugs. People have reported that the Nvidia tray icon will not go away. Also it will prompt that sli is disabled when you boot into windows, even if you only have a single card. Everything else seems to be pretty positive. I am going to try them when I get home tonight.

Is there anyway to force the driver to think its WHQL so it will owrk right in a slipstream?

If a driver needs to be WHQL certified to work in a slipstream that is news to me, if you use a good slipstream tool or hand edit some things I'm sure it is supported.

Don't have time to look into this right now but here is some stuff I found in about a minute, atleast showing it is possible.

http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t51140.html

The methods outlined there should work for other drivers, you should check out the slipstreaming tools mentioned.

Found the WHQL stuff in the thread but its confusing and I am not sure what I ned to do since I am having issues with a Video card not a hard drive controller.

I think people could use msconfig to get rid of it if it bothers them. The sli error is pretty wierd though.

Does it exist nvsvc32.exe problem? The 91.28 has this problem

To the guys with the taskbar problem, I don't know why that is a problem, the taskbar should be a usefull way to access things and change options, why you want to hide it is beyond me, I think it would be a problem if it wasn't shown on the taskbar.

To Asoulintime1982, I think you can probably remove all graphics drivers except the nvidia ones and maybe follow some methods outlined there, I only saw that site while searching but that should do it.

I do not know how to moddify drivers to make windows think they are certified, haven't heard of anyone doing that yet.

You can tell XP and even Vista to let you install non-certified drivers though, and that is what needs to be done.

http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread...38&page=1&pp=15

That topic says its not possible (section/chapter 6) but maybe if you remove the graphics drivers in XP it will have to use non WHQL drivers.

This might work but maybe not in an unatended install.

Mmmm guess I won't be installing these ones then..

One day they will release a good driver :) It's been a little while since we've had one that suited everybody..

Works fine on my notebooks but on my desktop with the GeForce 5950 Ultra, the system tray nvidia icon when clicked on and then Nvidia control panel doesn't do anything, it's supposed to open the Nvidia control panel. I don't even have a Nvidia control panel icon in Windows Control Panel.

I didn't test much, but it was alerting that SLI was switched off because only one card

was recognized.

Here are my benchmark results. It seems that the 91.31 is a hair slower than the 91.28, but only by a margin that is negligible. and the 91.31 scored higher in 4 of the 11 tests below and tied in another. I also have not had any issues with this driver ( yet )
