So i flashed a few times and i found out, that the GPU is able to run with 500MHz /1250MHz Shader, but the RAM is not able to work with more than 400MHz(normal should be 800Mhz My Question is, is it possible that i got GDDR2 Ram(GPU-Z says it's GDDR3) and may it be possible that they Faked it, or is my card damaged? JohnBRoot Posted February 3, 2009 Report Share Posted February 3, 2009 Hi, Check on the manufacturer's website of the memory chips on your 9600m, it will tell you if they are DDR2 or 3 chips. If it's DDR2 don't bother they won't go much higher than this (maybe 450mhz if you're lucky) If it's DDR3 then maybe they are runing on agressive timings: check with Nibitor the timings and try to relax them a lot a see if there is any change in o/c. For the faking stuff, yeah it has already been done a few years ago with DDR chips for desktop. That's easy to paint with white ink on the ram chips... But as the card is engineering sample or pre-release, you can expect pretty much anything, but I don't think it's fake mem chips... You best solution is to check the timing of the card, for example mine are: (have 9600m GT 512Mb DDR3 with Qimonda 1.1ns chips so 900Mhz certified...) Guest Donlucas Posted February 4, 2009 Report Share Posted February 4, 2009 Thank you JohnBRoot, I'm confused about the timings, because i don't Know how to change the timings, could u tell me what i have to choose to set the timing slow(mines are the same as yours at the moment, and autoselect timing says Timingset7. The dealer from ebay said my cooler is not good enough, but what should i answer(because i think it's not a temparature problem, when i'm able to run furmark about 20min at 400MHz and the laptop doesn't even boot to desktop without problems at 450MHz. JohnBRoot Posted February 4, 2009 Report Share Posted February 4, 2009 Hi, check on Nibitor that you have the same freq for 3D, Throttle and Extra, it will prevent the card from throttling on 3d appz or windows special appz (java, flash...). On win desktop it will have the 2d freqs sont won't overheat. Now for the timing, I'm no specialist, but you should find some suitable tutorials for ram tweaking on Nibitor on the web: google is your friend ;-) Your cooler has nothing to do with bad memories or faulty timings... With my heatsink modification I have about 85° full load on games/3dmark and 60° on idle. Definitely worth the upgrade. Latest games work fine in medium level (even Far Cry 2...) I tried ACPI tweaks on NHC to force fan at full speed but it does not work. And even at full speed it cannot cope with the heat generated by the card. I'm starting to think of active cooling solution like VGA or chipset cooler for desktop and plug it on USB 5V+ good notebook cooler. hi sorry for the silly question, but i'd be appreciated to know how would you "force" laptop fan to operate at max speed using any software? i have NHC (if its notebook hardware control) but nowhere to found the ACPI tweaks... thanks. Guest alecool Posted February 27, 2009 Report Share Posted February 27, 2009 I managed to force full speed fan with Notebook Hardware Control. You have to use modified ACPI file. Here is mine for Fujitsu-Siemens, you can edit the XML file and see that I added a line for the Pi1556. ACPI tweaked files To use the fake temperature, enable ACPI control system in the ACPI tab and select one of the fan management among manual or automatic in the ACPI control system window. Don't enable auto and manual at the same time, the thing wouldn't work. I personnaly use manual control at full speed. You will see very high temperature from the cpu probe, don't worry, this is the fake temp to make the fan work. You can check the temperature in the status tab when pointing on the double-arrows on the right of th CPU Temp, in the Core0 and Core1 values. (right now, jut after boot, idle on windows desktop, it was stable at 40C, fan at full speed) I just put a 9600M GT in my Pi1556 this morning. I have the 30s countdown, didn't tried games yet. I tried 2 other vios for the graphic card, but both brought messy graphics at the boot, so I had to blindly downgrade to the original one I backed up. I am currently looking for Alienware bioses and if I find a good one, I will try again the previous bios. C'm on, we will get Pi1556 to work properly with 9600M GT eventually! It seems they are accessible only from AlienWare's MyHive, which I don't have access to. Do you have a link? Moreover, what bothers me more, is that even if the vbios flash went well, and even if graphics go messy after flashing,I still have the 30 seconds countdown. That would mean that either the flash didn't go that well (but graphics gets messy and clockrates are changed) or the engineering sample stuff is hard coded in the card and not only in the bios, which is a problem. For now, I found out that with speakers or headphones plugged in the audio output, the beeps don't show up, but there is still the 30 seconds to wait. epsoo Posted March 6, 2009 Report Share Posted March 6, 2009 Hi all , i just ordered 9600 gt with 1 gig on board and acer bios , i will check temp and let know if the same .. card should arrive by Thursday if there will be no delays. at the moment x1900 witch is on board now after 5 min of playing gives some weird strips , then game hangs and system reboots .. so hopefully with 9600 gt will be better .. and can some one can post heat sink modification or ideas are welcome .. Check in the XML file with a text editor, there should be this line: <Model name="AMILO Pi 1556" location="PRODUCT" class="XI2428" file="Fujitsu_Siemens.cs" /> If you have a Pi1556 (which is written in your profile apparently), this should work. At least, it works on my computer... I didn't tried the Alienware Bios, but I read the thread about Acer in this forum, and as one guy said, the probleme probably comes from a not up-to-date bios. alecool Posted March 15, 2009 Report Share Posted March 15, 2009 I checked with Phoenix Bios Editor as well, but I don't think our solution is here, or at least not in the POST errors. As I read in a thread for Acer notebook in this forum, the problem may come from the fact that the card is not in the bios "database". A good fix would be to edit the bios to add the code of the card in it, are copy any corresponding code from a bios accepting 9600M GT to a Pi1556-friendly bios. This would be the fix. But I didn't spent so much time on it and it seems pretty complicated. Another possibility would be finding in the video bios, the structure where the 30 second countdown is operated, and turn it to a 0 second countdown. That would be only a partial fix, because the MXM structure still wouldn't be recognised, but at least, there wouldn't be the countdown anymore.
