:: OPEN ISSUES

As with every released driver, version 71.84 of the Release 70 drivers has open issues and enhancement requests associated with it. What follows is a list of issues that are either not fixed or not implemented in this version. Some problems listed may not have been thoroughly investigated and, in fact, may not be NVIDIA issues. Others will have workaround solutions.

  • GeForce 6200 with TurboCache (16 MB): The system crashes when resizing applications.
  • GeForce 6 Series, Windows XP: Lighting issue with Half-Life 2.
  • GeForce 6800 GT/Ultra SLI, Windows XP: Running the game Chronicles of Riddick with SLI enabled results in corruption or application crash.
This issue can be worked around by setting to single-GPU SLI mode, it will be fixed in the next driver release.
  • GeForce 6600, Windows XP: There is texture corruption in the ammo interface in the game Painkiller.
  • GeForce 6600, SLI, Windows XP: Skipping frames occur in the game PainKiller with SLI mode enabled.
  • GeForce 6 Series, SLI,Windows XP: Light sources show through solid objects in the game Halo with SLI mode enabled.
  • GeForce 6 Series: Stuttering appears in different portions of the game EverQuest2.
This issue will be fixed in the next driver release.
  • GeForce 6800/6600/6200, SLI, Windows XP: Intro videos do not render in Tiger Woods 2005 with SLI mode enabled.
  • GeForce 6600, SLI, Windows XP: Corruption appears on the course in Tiger Woods 2005 with SLI mode enabled.
  • GeForce 6800: White flashing appears across the screen in the game Joint Operations?Typhoon Rising.
  • GeForce FX 5200: There is corruption on the water in the 3DMark05 Canyon Flight Game test.
  • GeForce 6200: There is screen corruption when antialiasing is enabled within 3DMark05.
  • GeForce FX 5200: There is corruption in the Far Cry heads up displays.
  • GeForce 6200: The left side of Half Life 2 is blacked out when 2x or 4x antialiasing is enabled.
  • GeForce 6200 with TurboCache (16MB): A Direct3D out-of-memory error occurs in Unreal Tournament 2003 when using the HardOCP Benchmark Utility ver 2.1.
  • GeForce 6600, SLI: There is texture corruption in the game Toca Race Driver 2 when played at 1600x1200 resolution, with 4x antialiasing and SLI mode enabled.
  • GeForce 6600 (128 MB): The game Hitman?Contracts refuses to start with graphics options set to the maximum (1600x1200, 4x antialiasing, 16x anisotropic filtering).
  • GeForce 6600, SLI: Screen goes black momentarily during Tomb Raider?Angel of Darkness with SLI mode enabled.
  • GeForce 6600, SLI, Windows XP: The game Lock On?Modern Air Combat crashes when played at the highest graphics settings with SLI mode enabled.
  • GeForce 6200 (16 MB), Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005: Fullscreen video mirroring is not supported.
  • Geforce 6800: Half-Life 2 fog is different when using ATI hardware.
This is not an NVIDIA bug, but rather an issue with the application.
  • GeForce FX 5959: Ultra Age of Mythology has screen flicker with certain special effects.
  • GeForce FX 5959: Ultra Medal of Honor Pacific Assault has flickering with 8x anisotropic filtering enabled.
  • GeForce 6600/6800 (128MB): 3D Mark 2003 demo mode results in an out of memory error at 1600x1200x32 with 4x antialiasing enabled.
This is not a bug. The problem occurs because there is not enough memory to run 3D Mark03 in this mode with a 128MB board.
  • Single display modes such as TV only, DFP/LCD only or CRT only provide the best performance and quality from Windows Media Center Edition.
Dual display modes such Dualview and nView Clone and Span modes are
    not recommended.
  • When using the trial version of WinDVD 6 from InterVideo.com, you may experience TV or DVD playback problems in Windows Media Center if you change resolutions during video playback. This is most often seen when switching from windowed to full screen mode.
This problem does not occur with the latest full OEM versions of WinDVD or with other Windows Media Center qualified DVD decoders.
  • GeForce 6600: Artifacts appear in the intro videos and during game play in Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness at 1600x1200 and with 4x antialiasing enabled.
A fix for this will be included in a future driver release.
  • GeForce 6800: Aspect ratio is incorrect when movie transitions from 4:3 to 16:9 playback using PowerDVD5 Trail (download from the Cyberlink Web site).
This is an application issue. The problem does not occur with other DVD
    players.
  • If you perform a clean driver installation (no previous NVIDIA drivers installed), you must reboot your computer. If you do not reboot, the predefined application profiles (XML files) will not be activated and you may experience application stability problems.
  • GeForce2, GeForce4 MX, Windows XP: City of Heroes crashes to the desktop intermittently.
This is not an NVIDIA bug.
  • Windows XP/2000: Clone mode may be set for the GeForce FX 5600 although only one display is connected.
This setting causes a drop in the performance of 3D applications. The workaround is to use the NVIDIA control panel to reset the system to standard mode from clone mode.
  • Windows XP, GeForce FX 5950 Ultra: Homeworld2 antialiased performance is slow.
This is not an NVIDIA bug, but is a known issue with the application. A game patch 1.1 is available at ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/sierra/homeworld...te_en_10_11.exe .
  • Windows ME: CodeCult benchmark does not run properly.
This is not an NVIDIA bug.
  • GeForce FX, Windows ME: Gunmetal Demo intro movie does not display properly.

:: OPINION [*by LSudlow]

71.84 is a very polished driver that appears ready for wide distribution. (NOTE: As of March 2, it's become the newest official public beta driver on nVidia's NZone site.) It includes most of the new features of the recently uncovered 75.90 driver, but on a much more solid foundation. (To take advantage of the new video modion compensation driver, nvhwvid.dll, be sure to enable VMR in both the nVidia Control Panel and in whatever media player you use).

71.80, on the other hand, seemed intended to add support for new cards and solve a few bugs. Performance is similar to other recent 71.xx drivers, which means it works well for cards with lots of RAM, especially nVidia's series 6 GPUs. For most laptop owners with 64MG (or less) cards, performance continues to lag significantly behind 67.66.

The 7x.xx drivers are a RAM-hungry series, but I suspect there's no going back. They are acceptable, though not particularly fast, for video cards with 64MB or less of RAM. But if you have a video card with 128MB or more of RAM, or if you have bugs that need to be solved, you should give 71.84 a try.

MY standby mode problem is gone. :) I should have read the comments in the *.inf files.

I try to get rid of the NVIDIA MEDIA CENTER icon appeared in my system tray. I recalled before I can simple left-click the icon on "Exit" and it won't appear again every time I reboot my laptop. But not this time. Is there something I can do about it?

Thanks.

On the nVidia Control Panel's troubleshooting page, uncheck the box that says "Display the nVidia Settings icon in the taskbar."

Okay... In that case, run Regedit and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Delete the NvMediaCenter key.

On some other popular forums about 1/3 of the people responding concerning use of this driver report tempeture increases over other 7x.xx drivers, (which some also claim run hotter than 6 series drivers.) These people have various video cards, but most are Nvidia 6xxx cards and a few 5xxx series. Their cards are made by various manufacturers. Some claim small increases of a few degrees C, some say as much as 20 degrees C.

Is this a true fact, has anyone used a tempeture probe to verify temp increases over other drivers? Or is this a reporting bug in the driver.

By the way, you guys have a great site here and I have recommend you to thousands of people. Thanks for your hard work it is appreciated. And thanks to Bill and Mobilenvidia for informing me of your site on a thread in the Nvidia forums.

If you added Pieter's inf and got that message, you have a hardware ID that he hasn't yet added. If you can post an INF that works for you, I'll show you the lines you need to add to Pieter's inf to make it work.

Hi thanks for the inf, but I have a Geforce 6600 Go with 128mb ddr, this driver (71.81) doesn't work for me.... after rebooting, as soon as XP loads the screen is totally garbled. I cant do anything but reboot in safe mode, then use the system restore (thank you XP SP2!!! for automatically creating a system restore point before installing unverified drivers).

The very first go6600 to come here :)

Guest we need more details, Make, model, and some specs please.

What driver came with your machine ?

Can you attach the original INF for us to have a look at ?

Being the first go6600 we are in the dark.

Also would love to see some benchmarks for this GPU (3D Benchmarks)

Hi, thank you for replying. I just found out that the factory installed 71.70 drivers for me, not bad! But where do i find the INF? I would like to find some way to hack it so it shows the clock speeds panel, I think mine is very underclocked (no problems playing HL2 at high, 77fps, but never gets hot, so i think clock speeds low)

71.70, what make is your laptop we need to get hold of that driver so we can host them.

Does your supplier have them on their website ?

Do the have the HL2 yellow water bug ?

You'll be needing Bills handy wee page then http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?showtopic=6810 to turn on the OCing page.

Also on the website is a performance page where you setup for maximum performance.

Enjoy.

Guest can you upload 71.10 to LaptopVideo2Go? Currently Toshiba Canada does not offer seperate download of this driver, so we need your help!

Please post more info here:

http://forums.laptopvideo2go.com/index.php?showtopic=6825

You probably have a restore DVD/CD where all drivers are located , search for the the NVIDIA Graphic card driver folder on the DVD and upload the ZIP or EXE to

ftp.laptopvideo2go.com with username anonymous@laptopvideo2go.com and password anonymous
