hohoham Posted March 20, 2009 Report Share Posted March 20, 2009 (edited) I was getting 90c with 550/900/1400.. after I cleaned the DUST, Lots n lots of dust in the fan and heatsink, my temp went back to 80c !! I'm getting about 80c @ 620/900/1400, core/mem/shader OC. I will be lapping the gpu n cpu and will apply OCZ Freeze Extreme to drop the temps down OC higher! =D To those who have overheating problem or wanna lower temps to overclock.. clean your GPU!! a pic from someone's gpu, mine was worse to those that wanna OC to a higher level, do lapping on your gpu and and apply good thermal paste on it, do some research on it and you will understand. I've done some research n it can bring your temps down about 10c, will do it myself n see the results. fasondan Posted March 26, 2009 Report Share Posted March 26, 2009 (edited) For HP users ,upgrade your bios to latest (f14) cause it doesn't matter . install one of the forceware drivers . dox's 182.05 recommended ,i am using dox's 182.46 ,there ,s not much difference . open Riva Tuner ,click on "Power User" tab ,select "i'm a Power User" cause you are :) First disable "protect database entries" by pressing the button pictured as a registry cube and a lock on it . Then expand "Rivatuner\nvidia\overclocking" by pressing "+" near it . Activate "Enable Low Power 3D control ,Enable Perf Level Forcing ,Use Alternate Startup Daemon" by right clicking them and selecting the lighting bulb. Then expand "Rivatuner\overclocking\global" by pressing "+" sign as you make before . Double click the empty column near "max clock limit" and enter "100" Double click the empty column near "min clock limit" and enter "10" Then go to the "main" tab click the arrow in the "ForceWare detected Customize...." box and select "System settings" Now you are at the "System Tweaks" window . Click "Enable driver-level hardware overclocking" and select "detect now" ,then select "performance 3D" . also "Force constant performance level" must be selected as "performance 3D" when you finish setting click apply and restart computer . when restart completes open "System Tweak" window as you do before ,and you now able to change clock speeds . if you want to set shader to higher clocks unselect "link clocks" box . "Save overclocking profile" can only be selected after you apply clocks . i recommend you to set lower clocks and select "apply overclocking at windows startup" ,so when surfing and making daily works you won't waste unnecessary gpu power . also under the "launcher" tab on main window ,you can create submenus for your profiles and if you select "send to tray on close" and "run at windows startup" option under the "settings tab" on the main window ,you can switch easily between your profiles by right clicking the tray icon . Just install & run it, choose FAT32, check the Button "create a DOS startup disk" and enter the location of the extracted "Win98BootDisk" folder. This should work :) BootDisk files It works great! mig Posted May 6, 2009 Report Share Posted May 6, 2009 bit of help in "overclocking" a late 2008 macbook pro. i've got a 9600m GT with 256mb memory. apparently apple ships these with underclocked cards so i just want to push the performance up to normal levels. i've got both ntune and rivatuner installed. when i open up the nvidia monitor that came with rivatuner, it tells me that the GPU core is 500mhz and the GPU memory is 792mhz. but when i open up the nvidia control panel and click help -> system information, it tells me the core clock is 393mhz, shader clock is 786mhz, and memory clock is 700mhz (1400mhz data rate). which do i follow here? is my card really underclocked or is it running at default numbers? how do i actually go about overclocking this? thanks! Its sure feels good scoring 16500 in 3dMark 06 and 10500 in Vantage... It's been a great support from you guys here... Hope I'll be back again if I buy a new gaming laptop... So I know where to clean? third and last. for how long was your laptop used beforce cleaning it? most stable clocks right now 575/800/1400 gave me 6300 3dmark06 points and about 27 average fps in FC2 on high settings 1280 × 800 no aa no AF en temp was like 85 degrees celsius. I would do it myself, but I'm a lot more cautious now because last time I tried doing this (with a 8600m gs) my laptop overheated and literally broke. So, thought I would take the safe route this time and ask for your suggestions. Basically, I'd just like to know some recommended (and SAFE) settings for an overclocked 9600m gt. Every setting on my computer is stock, as I haven't tweaked anything. the overclocked settings don't need to be extreme to the point of heating up the comp. until its boiling hot, just to the point where it is a significant step up from stock settings. Like I said, SAFE settings is important! My specs are as follows: HP dv7t - Windows Vista home Premium 32 bit T5800 2.0 ghz Core 2 Duo PM45 Chipset 3.0 gb RAM I really appreciate your help guys, just some recommended settings would be great.
